Each week we learn a new poem and glue it in our Poetry Journals. Every day during our Daily 5 rotations, we spend a mini-lesson with our poem. This time helps us to become more fluent and expressive readers. We also work on sight words and responding to our reading during this time. This past week our poem was "5 Little Turkeys." Here is one of our students leading the class in an echo-style reading of the poem.
The students have been doing "Listen to Reading" on the Kindles for a couple weeks. They love being able to pick a book from the RAZ-Kids selection, listen to it twice, and take a quiz on what they've read. We worked so hard on how to use the Kindles during the first 9 weeks. The students learned how to turn the Kindle on, how to move it around, and how to touch gently. I am happy to share that the students are now able to be responsible and use them without teacher assistance! |
